The second draft is done, with 100% fewer exploding planets and beheadings than the first one.
On finishing, some vague analogy between writing and walking through a forest came to mind; as in, you follow (or hack) a path in one direction through the woods, and finally reach the end. And then you realise that while the place you've come to is very nice, it's not the best place you could be. So you head back into the forest, retracing your steps till you come to a clearing, then set off in a different direction and see where that takes you.
And as you make your way along this new path you discover all kinds of things you would never have found had you just stayed where you originally emerged. And lots of those things are funny. And then when you get to the end of the new path, a commissioning editor steps out from behind a tree and gives you money.
Something like that, anyway.
